The University of West Attica scientifically supports the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs concerning the “National strategy for the gypsy’s social integration during 2021-2027”

The first meeting regarding the formation of the national strategy for the gypsy’s social integration, scientifically supported by the Social Administration Research Laboratory (SARL) in the University of West Attica was held at the Secretary General of Social Solidarity and Poverty Alleviation.

This specific strategy and the action plan for its accomplishment constitute a necessary enabling condition for the financing from the European structural and investment funds within the new program period 2021-2027. During the meeting, the anthropocentric orientation of the new public policy regarding the gypsy’s social integration was affirmed and the basic priorities of this initiate national strategy (education, employment, health, accommodation, welfare services) were discussed. Furthermore, the schedule about the strategy’s execution stages was adopted and it is going to be completed through the conclusion assessment on a public consultation with the involved members.

In order to execute a sustainable and coherent national strategy concerning the gypsy’s social integration, the Social Administration Research Laboratory (SARL) of the University of West Attica will primarily undertake:

  • the systematic recording and depiction of the institutional and organizational background regarding the gypsy’s social integration in Greece.
  • the depiction and the objective assessment of the national strategy concerning the gypsy’s social integration during the 2011-2020 period, as well as the national operational action plan about the gypsy’s social integration during the 2017-2021 period.
  • the accounting of the European Union’s institutional and operational background on the gypsy’s social integration advocacy.
  • the recording of the effective national methods about the gypsy’s social integration
  • the discovery of international funding sources in respect of the gypsy’s social integration

The rector of the University of West Attica, Professor Panagiotis Kaldis thanks Giorgos Stamatis, General Secretary of Social Solidarity and Poverty Alleviation and congratulates everyone involved in this specific operation, who practically highlights and reinforces the institution’s social aspect by scientifically engaging with one of the most vulnerable population groups.
